Sterling Silver & Turquoise, Old Southwest Style Marquise Cut Stone
This stunning, handmade gemstone ring is made from genuine "Blue Gem" turquoise set into a lovely solid 925 sterling silver setting in a classic style reminiscent of the old American southwest.
Turquoise is found in only a few places on earth: dry and barren regions where acidic, copper-rich groundwater seeps downward and reacts with minerals that contain phosphorus and aluminum.
Blue Gem turquoise was mined approximately 6 miles south of Battle Mountain, Nevada, within a large copper-mining operation. Blue Gem mine produced almost every shade of green and blue from intense blues to deep green combinations with a hard, irregularly distributed matrix. Of the multiple Nevada mines that are named Blue Gem, the Battle Mountain Blue Gem mine, which began production in 1934, yielded the most valuable Blue Gem turquoise due to its rich color and hardness. This mine is now CLOSED and the stone is highly sought after by collectors. The beautiful copper matrix in this particular stone is extremely rare.
Turquoise is called the "Stone of Friendship" and it is believed that if someone gives you a piece of turquoise, then yours is a true and long lasting friendship. It is also a powerful healing stone and is used to "heal the healer".
Turquoise has been revered in all cultures around the world from the ancient Egyptians to the tribes of Native Americans and Aboriginal Canadians.
Turquoise is also the December birthstone and the modern 11th Anniversary gemstone gift.
This ring is a lovely, rich blue turquoise cabochon within a rare copper matrix and is about 1/2 inch wide by 3/4 inch long (11 x 18mm) I have set it into a classic Navajo style, minimalist sterling silver ring base.
Whether you are purchasing this ring for yourself or someone special, you can be assured that I take great care with both my packaging and my shipping. Your turquoise gemstone ring will arrive in a lovely jewelry box, perfect for gifting.
