Metis Earrings ~ Rustic Birchbark, Labradorite and Polar Bear Earrings
I have created these lovely, traditional Metis styled Birch Bark Earrings from bark I harvested from trees on my lakefront property here in Alberta, Canada. It was done in an environmentally responsible way using shed bark, and was not taken from living trees.
The earrings are shaped like diamonds, and are approximately 1 x 1 inches (2.5 cm) from the tip to the bottom of the earwire. I have added on dangles of beautiful silvery grey Labradorite beads and white Mother Of Pearl Zuni style Polar Bear beads that are strung on silver jewelry wire.
The earwires themselves are hypoallergenic stainless steel, for those of us with metal sentivities.
These earrings are very light to wear and would be perfect for someone who embraces a natural, holistic lifestyle or who just enjoys the outdoors.
Labradorite is named for the part of Canada where the stone was first discovered - Labrador - on the East Coast. Polar bears are a part of our northern culture, and birch bark has been used for many thousands of years by the Aboriginal people of Canada for things such as canoes, baskets, clothing and jewelry.
These earrings are a combination of these very Canadian properties and reflect our country beautifully.
