The evil eye – was first recorded by the Mesopotamians about 5,000 years ago in cuneiform writing on clay tablets, but it may actually have originated as early as the Upper Paleolithic age. We find this figure in Jewish, Christian and Muslim cultures as well as Buddhist and Hindu societies. The evil eye, mal de ojo, Nazar, Mauvais Oeil, or greek matiasma is a curse believed to be cast by a malevolent glare, which is usually directed towards a person who is unaware. Many cultures believe that receiving the evil eye will cause one misfortune, bad luck or injury. Evil Eye jewelry and talismans are created to protect against the evil eye.

Blue is the traditional color for good karma, positive energies and protection against the evil eye. Light blue is the color of the sky – it symbolizes truth and therefore it provides direct protection against the evil eye.

I have used beautiful, hand painted Mother of Pearl "eyes" along with hand painted wooden "evil eye" beads. The ear wires are hypoallergenic stainless steel, so even those of us with metal sensitivities can wear them.

These earrings are very light to wear and dangle approximately 1.5 inches (4 cm) from the bottom of the earwire.

These would make great gifts for someone moving away, whether through a new job, a new school, new home, deployment, etc. to help protect in a new and strange situation.

They come gift boxed and ready for your gift giving!
