Native American Seed Bead Fringe Earrings ~ "Owl Feather" Pattern

Regular price $132.00 Sale

These beautiful seed bead earrings are sure to "wow". This is my own pattern inspired by the owl feathers I find in my yard occasionally. I have used all glass #11 seed beads for these in a lovely opalized chocolate brown, a creamy off-white and gold accents. The earwires are 14k gold plated stainless steel for those with metal sensitivities.

These earrings are 4.5 inches long at the bottom of the longest fringe and 1 inch wide. These are gently curved like the owl feathers that I have taken as my inspiration.

Some Native American tribes such as the Cherokee, Lakota, and Caddo believed that owls may bring news to medicine men who are able to understand them. This news may tell of events happening at a far away distance or of events of the future. Some Cherokee shamans believed these owls, especially the Eastern Screech Owl, act as spiritual consultants on sickness and punishments.

To this day, practitioners of Native American spiritual traditions hold that the owl represents vision and insight.

In some Native American cultures, owls are associated with magic, clairvoyance and astral travel. Owls are birds of the night-they have the power to see the unseen in the blackest of darkness, to hunt for food and fly silently through the night.

Not only in Native culture, but MOST ancient cultures, owls have often been associated with magic, witches and sorcerers, and in some cultures, the owl is a symbol of wisdom and all-seeing knowledge. The Greek goddess Athena was often pictured with an owl on her shoulder which had the power to reveal hidden secrets. Merlin was said to have an Owl familiar. Think "Harry Potter" for just the most recent association.

No matter your beliefs, the beauty of their feathers cannot be denied and it is one of my favourites to use when making dream catchers, etc.
