Dreams of summer and the seaside will be yours (or hers) with this beautiful yet simple adjustable Paua Shell ring. Paua shell (or Abalone shell) has been used for thousands of years for human adornment and it is easy to see why. The beauty of this organic, natural material is breathtaking. I have paired a small (8mm) Paua shell cabochon with an adjustable ring base made of antique copper that has intricate leaf designs along the edges. You can just envision a balmy, tropical jungle paradise when looking at this ring.
It easily adjusts from a US size 5 to a US size 6.5 without losing it's form.
Pāua is the Māori name given to three New Zealand species of large edible sea snails, known in the United States and Australia as Abalone. They believe the shell strengthens the body and the heart of the wearer. With a stronger heart and body, the person is thought to be able to communicate their feelings more clearly. The Maori believe the Paua will bring connectivity and harmony to relationships. Because these shells are only found in this one area of the world, Pāua are both rare and much sought after.
Paua shells are often used in smudging rituals, not only because they are practical in that they catch the hot cinders that fall away from the smudging stick after it has burnt, but also because they are a beautiful gift straight from Mother Earth's ocean. It is believed the combined spiritual power of abalone and sage will take the messages to the Creator.
Copper is the traditional gift for the 7th, 9th or 22nd year anniversary as well, depending on where you live in the world. In the USA and Canada it is the 7th Anniversary gift.
Comes in a small, organic cotton gift pouch.
